Fireworks and loud noises such as thunder and lightening can upset your dog. Whether or not you already know your dog is sensitive to loud noises, please take the proper precautions:
Keep your dog indoors in a room or his crate – someplace he cannot escape from. If you put him in his crate, stuff a Kong with some of his kibble and put peanut butter in the opening. This should keep him busy. Note – make sure the peanut butter does not contain xylitol, which can make your dog very sick. Skippy is a safe brand, but always check the label to make sure.
If the dog is not crated or in a separate room, each time a loud noise occurs, give your dog a high value treat. Keep giving treats as the noise is happening so your do will make a positive association with the noises.
Invest in a Thunder Shirt. It’s like swaddling a baby and has a very calming affect.
